Psychological & Educational Testing Services
About Our Testing Services
The Center has a team of specialized psychologists and other professionals who are available to offer comprehensive testing services. Testing is appropriate when there are are questions about a student’s, or adult's, cognitive, attentional, or emotional processes that may be affecting academic achievement, work functioning, or interpersonal relationships. Our professional team offers comprehensive testing and evaluation services that will identify even subtle learning strengths and weaknesses that can impact an individual's functioning. As part of the testing process we will consult with the client's educators, physicians, and therapists, as appropriate, in order to mobilize these resources to provide future intervention. For a referral to these services contact Diane Sizer, PhD at ext. 269.
Comprehensive Psychological & Educational Testing
A comprehensive psycho-educational evaluation is available for both children and adults. This evaluation is performed by a psychologist and includes assessment of cognitive functioning (intelligence, memory, executive functions, including attention), perceptual processing, educational achievement (reading, math, writing), social and emotional concerns, and personality functioning. This type of evaluation can diagnose learning disabilities, attention disorders, psychopathology, emotional, and behavioral concerns. It includes comprehensive interviews, 6-8 hours of testing, feedback session(s), and a comprehensive report.
Partial Psycho-educational Testing
A partial psycho-educational evaluation is available to diagnose learning or attention problems. This evaluation is done by a psychologist and includes everything in the comprehensive evaluation except for social and emotional concerns and personality functioning. Tools used are comprehensive interviews, 4-6 hours of testing, feedback session(s), and a comprehensive report.
Evaluation for Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
This level of evaluation is available for the sole purpose of diagnosing the presence or absence of ADHD symptoms in adults and children by a psychologist or other qualified professional. It includes comprehensive interviews, rating scale information, a continuous performance test, and feedback session. A report may or may not be included. Insurance usually covers this entire evaluation, but will not pay for a written report.
Gifted Assessments/Independent School Admissions
Intellectual evaluations using the most well-known IQ tests are available for the purpose of identifying academically gifted children. Intellectual assessments are also required for admissions to many independent schools in the region. The Center currently serves applicants to independent schools in our region such as Abington Friends School, Germantown Academy, Germantown Friends School, and William Penn Charter.
Educational Evaluation & Learning Assessment
This type of evaluation is performed by an educational specialist. It includes assessment of the student’s perceptual processing, achievement in reading, writing, and/or math, a cognitive ability screening, and ADHD screening. This evaluation entails 2-4 hours of testing, a feedback session, and a written report. This type of assessment is not typically covered by insurance.
Reading Screening
This screening by a reading or educational specialist is for children and adults who may be experiencing reading difficulties and do not want a more comprehensive evaluation. The student’s phonological awareness, decoding skills, word reading, and reading comprehension will be evaluated. A report will be provided. This type of assessment is not typically covered by insurance.
