Bonnie Rowan, MA, ATR-BC, LPC
Bonnie is a registered and board certified Art Therapist and a Licensed Professional Counselor.  She received a master's degree in art therapy from Hahnemann University in 1995 and a bachelor's degree in fine arts from Chestnut Hill College in 1982.  Combining her skills as a former teacher with 12 years of therapeutic work, Bonnie has worked with clients of all ages, specializing in using nonverbal techniques available through the use of art and play based therapies with very young children and others who experience difficulty verbalizing their life experiences.  Her work has been offered in a variety of settings including with children in residential treatment settings and children and families in the foster care system.  She utilizes art therapy to help clients -- with or without art-making experience--to remove obstacles that can block the manifestation of a life fully lived.  Using non-verbal communication during individual, family and group art therapy can contribute to the growth of emotional and spiritual aspects of the self and assist clients in releasing hidden aspects of trauma, worry and stress.

Bonnie incorporates family therapy with art and play therapy which allows parents to parent peacefully, by; improving communication, fostering a sense of unity, and increasing the competency of all family members, from the very young to the oldest, enabling families to function in a more consistent positive way.

Bonnie has facilitated art therapy groups in clinical settings and founded the "Healthy Hearts Art" summer camp program for children from ages 5-6 through adolescence to increase social skills, reduce anxiety, help children to feel a sense of support and community and to gain a sense of mastery over problems.  This all happens in a warm, safe, child-friendly environment while having fun in the process.
